Oil Mist Detector

The Visatron VN115/87 Plus Oil Mist Detection System that is used on both 2- and 4-stroke engines. The Visatron VN115/87 Plus consists of a Detection System that acts like a switch. When a dangerous friction situation is detected, along with Oil Mist development, an alarm signal is released and provided to the alarm and safety system of the ship. Then the engine will either be stopped immediately or switched into a slow down mode, depending on the classification rules and engine purpose.

The Visatron VN115/87 Plus uses a header-section-tube system for this purpose. The Oil Mist Detector is positioned in the middle, between two header-section-tube sections that are located on the engine sides. These tubes are thinner than the header-suction-tube, and have a throttling effect.
